Felt Christmas Tree for Kids

Christmas time is always such a fun time to make Christmas crafts, holiday treats, and fun traditions as a family. I love it when a craft turns into an activity for the kids like these Puffy Paint Window Clings, and some of these fun Holiday Games to Play with the Kids

Many years ago, I saw this idea on Pinterest and knew I wanted to make this fun Christmas activity for the kids. And, of course, I wanted to share it with all of you. To keep the kids busy while we prepared Thanksgiving yummies, I ran out to JoAnn Fabric Store and bought 2 yards of Christmas Green Felt for the Christmas tree. Then, I added a small amount of several other fun Christmas-colored felt to make ornaments. I think my self-motto should be “Go Big Or Go Home!” ’cause this tree is humongous. The kids are having so much fun decorating it every morning. They are even drawing new custom ornaments on the colorful felt for us to cut out. Felt sticks to felt, so there is no need to glue anything. Just cut out Christmas candy canes, gingerbread people, stars, and some little black-and-white strips and circles for fun decorating.

You’ll be surprised at what the little ones come up with from felt pieces and a Christmas tree canvas to play with.

Ella took a yellow circle I had intended as a round ornament and added several black circles to it for a Christmas Cookie. She also loves putting two candy canes together to make a Christmas heart.

Connor keeps taking the Christmas presents from the bottom of the tree to cover his gingerbread boy with a cozy blanket.

Michael continues to draw Dinosaur shapes for me to cut out

Abi enjoys dressing the Snowmen, Snow-women, and Gingerbread boys and girls. We have a supply of felt scarves, skirts, hats, and so on

Here we are several years later, and I still have a version of that felt Christmas tree. I did not learn my lesson, because I made the new one six feet tall. But, you know what? The kids can use a little step ladder and it gives them more space to decorate and enjoy.

Not really. Felt usually sticks to felt no matter the type.

Use a toothbrush or a stiff brush to fluff the felt and create friction.
