The Chicago Style Hot Dog lesson on toppings, and what Not to do!

I was honored, yesterday,  to be able to take my mom to her first ever Chicago Bears game. You see, Greema is a huge fan of “Da Bears”. She only lives an hour away, but, she’s never been to a game.  Greema does not “Do” Chicago traffic, and tickets are a little expensive.

Thanks to our relocation to the Chicago area, and my sweet husband; I was as able to have the honor, to take Greema to a Bears game! Oh my gosh, you guys, I’ve dreamed of doing this, for my mom. My husband made it happen. He gave up a day with me and United Club Member tickets (ouch!).

We were pretty excited to be there, to say the least! With anticipation building as we walked through the Bear’s Domain…we turned the corner to face the field, and there it was in all of it’s glory…The Bears Field! Tears came down immediately from both of us, and it was one of those big, huge moments for both of us. I am so grateful for this time with my mom.

  • My mom has a hard time expressing herself with words. This picture is the perfect cliche of “A picture is worth a thousand words”. I sent this picture to my husband’s phone. He was pretty excited to see this. Of course, every time we pass Soldier Field; I hear about the ticket he almost got to use.

Had enough mushy stuff? Let’s move on to the Chicago Dog!

While in Chicago, and at a game, I felt compelled to get the cities official hot dog! I do love a good hot dog, and Chicago knows how to make one! Did you know that most Chicago-ans strongly suggest never, ever putting ketchup on a Chicago Dog? Here’s what is recommended on a Chicago-Style hot dog:

  • First off, you’ll need:
  • a Poppy Seed bun
  • An all beef hot dog
  • toppings:
  • sweet green pickle relish – this dog has chopped green pepper instead
  • tomatoes – sliced is preferred
  • onions
  • sport peppers
  • deli pickle spear or cucumber slices (I love cucumber on my dog)
  • and plain old yellow mustard – oh my gosh!… never Dijon!
  • Ground pepper to top it all off!

  • Enjoy your Chicago Dog, and football season!
  • Thanks for letting me share this moment with you
