My family has been on a salad kick lately. We are especially into cobb salad, but other favorites are layered salad for a crowd, and this hearty buffalo chicken salad. Any salad in a fun Parmesan Cheese bowl is a family favorite.

I have been making these Parmesan cheese bowls for salad as a special treat at Christmas time for more than a decade. They are so simple, yet they look so fancy, and the make any salad fun to eat. They are perfect for holidays, special occasions, or just for fun.

Ingredients for this Baked Parmesan Cheese Bowl

  • Shredded Parmesan
  • Parchment paper
  • Small Oven-Proof Bowls

How to Make Parmesan Cheese Bowls

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking sheet.
  • Spread Parmesan cheese into a circular shape on the parchment paper

  • Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and has turned a golden color
  • Let the cheese cool for about one minute. It should still be warm but will not fall apart when you pick it up
  • Place a small bowl upside down
  • Set the warm cheese circle over the center of the bowl and place another bowl over the cheese bowl.

  • Leave it alone until it cools.

  • Carefully remove the top bowl and the crispy cheese bowl and place it right-side up on a salad plate.

The parmesan cheese will spread farther than you think. You do not need that much to make one bowl.

Variation

Microwave the cheese bowls. Place parchment paper onto a microwave-proof plate. Spread a circle of parmesan cheese a little larger than your salad bowl. Microwave it for about two minutes. While the cheese is still warm, invert the parchment paper and bowl into a salad bowl. Place another bowl over the cheese bowl to mold it. Let that cool, and then remove the cheese. Place your cheese bowl onto a salad plate and fill it with a nice crisp salad.
