A Substitute For Baking Powder | Kid Friendly Things To Do

Easily make your own baking powder with baking soda and cream of tartar. A simple substitute when you run out.

Baking Powder Substitute

Last week, I found myself with some extremely old looking baking powder. I would have to get a chisel out if I wanted to the hard, crusted powder. So, instead of trusting that this obviously expired baking powder would do its job; I researched a substitute.

That’s when I found out that you can use baking soda and cream of tartar in place of baking powder.

Here’s how to make baking powder:

Use 2 parts baking soda to 1 part cream of tartar to substitute baking powder.

  • So, 2 tsp. of baking soda mixed with 1 tsp. cream of tartar would work as a substitute.
