What are some ways to make Thanksgiving Fun for Kids?

  • Make the kid table fun – cover it with easel paper and set out crayons so kids can color right on the table
  • Play football with the family as a tradition
  • Take a family walk
  • Make a scavenger hunt indoors or if it’s warm – take it outside
  • Give out goody bags
  • Play minute to win it games as a family

Here’s the very simple how to on this Paper Cup and Mitten Turkey & Goody Bag .

You’ll Need: – for each puppet

  • A brown mitten
  • 4 bright colors of felt for the feathers
  • Orange felt, or orange paper – (felt will hold up better)
  • A googly eye
  • A red piece of pipe cleaner – about 3 inches long
  • Warm glue gun, and glue sticks
  • Cotton balls

Instructions:

  1. Cut the felt colors into feather shapes – long enough to cover the 4 fingers of the mitten. They should be oblong shaped, pointed at the top, and cut straight across at the bottom (They look a little like leaf shapes)
  2. Glue the feathers onto the 4 fingers of the mitten – For kids that are right handed – the thumb should be on your right. Opposite for lefties. 🙂
  3. Now, glue the googly eye, and beak onto the thumb like the picture shows
  4. Wrap the red pipe cleaner around a pencil to give it the curls. Slide it off the pencil. Straighten out a little piece at the top, and glue it onto the beak
  5. Stuff a couple of  cotton balls in each finger, and 3 in the thumb to give them a plush look, and add support so they can stand up
  6. Fill a paper cup full of fun Thanksgiving treats for a fun goody bag, or leave it empty, and the kids can use this cup as their drinking cup while they play with their new puppet
  7. Pull the mitten over your paper cup so the turkey has a body
  8. Kids can leave it as is, or they can pull the turkey off of the cup, pull out the cotton balls, and use it as a puppet
