Blonde Brownie Santa Hat Christmas Dessert


An adorable and yummy Christmas Dessert for your party. 


  • 2 cups of flour
  • 2 cups of packed light brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. of baking powder
  • 1/2 cup of melted unsalted butter – cooled
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2&1/2 – 3 tsp. of liquid red food coloring
  • white frosting
  • piping bag with a star tip attached
  • Other Equipment Needed
  • large mixing bowl
  • non-stick aluminum foil
  • 9 inch round pie pan
  • Serrated bread knife


  1. Recipe update, below to cut baking time and increase the amount of brownies
  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  3. In mixing bowl, Mix the flour, sugar and baking powder
  4. To the center of the dry mixture Add the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla and red food coloring
  5. Do not mix until all of the wet are added in
  6. Mix the wet ingredients together, pulling the dry ingredients into the wet after the wet ingredients have had a chance to turn red from the food coloring
  7. The mixture will be like a play dough consistency
  8. Line pie plate with foil – non-stick side facing up
  9. If you want thinner, less dense browines that will feed 16, (this is actually my new preferred method) divide batter evenly between 2 pie pans and only bake for 25 minutes
  10. Pour the mixture into the pie pan and press it out to even it out at the top
  11. For only 1 pie pan, a thicker more dense brownie that will serve 8 – pour it all into one pie pan – Bake for about 40-50 minutes.
  12. When are they done?
  13. These brownies are thick, so they take a bit longer to bake. Once you start to smell the aroma of your brownies, check on them. A toothpick inserted into the middle should come out mostly clean. What I mean by that is; you shouldn’t have a wet batter on the toothpick. You will probably find cooked batter will adhere to the toothpick and that’s ok


  1. Let the brownies cool completely – about 15 minutes
  2. Pull the aluminum foil up and out of the pie pan
  3. Push the aluminum foil down away from the brownies
  4. Slice into 8-10 slices
  5. Using the star tip, decorate the bottom of the slice and the top with your white frosting stars to resemble a Santa Hat
  6. Cover and store leftover brownies at room temperature up to one week.


Recipe Update

  • Divide batter in half, pour into 2 prepared pie plates and bake for half of the time to get thin, less dense brownies that will serve double.

If you prefer it, you can mix the wet ingredients in a separate bowl and then add to dry ingredients. I just like to keep the dishes to a minimum.
