Campfire Crescent Roll Pizza Pockets and Sauce

Easy, fun and delicious Pizza Pockets for the grill or campfire

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 (15 oz.) can of tomato sauce
  • 1 (6 oz.) can of tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. of dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp. of garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. of onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. of sugar
  • Additional Equipment for sauce: Cast iron skillet

Additional ingredients:

  • 2 packages of crescent rolls
  • 1 8 oz. package of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Foil
  • Cooking spray – I used butter flavored
  • Optional pizza toppings – such as pepperoni, olives, mushrooms, etc.
  • Additional equipment: Campfire sticks or grill with baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Mix the sauce ingredients either in a bowl, or directly into your skillet – Warm through for dipping
  2. Make 16 pieces of foil squares for campfire pizza pockets
  3. Spray the foil with cooking sprya
  4. Unroll the crescent dough
  5. Shape each piece of dough into a square-ish shape
  6. place on foil square
  7. Sprinkle cheese over one half of the dough
  8. (You can add optional toppings to the cheese)
  9. Place the campfire stick over one half on the dough with cheese and fold the dough over the stick, pressing to seal on all sides
  10. Wrap the foil around the pizza pocket and hold over the campfire (not directly in the fire) for about 10 minutes.
  11. Check to see that the bread is cooked through
  12. If it hasn’t, return to the campfire for a few more minutes
  13. When the dough has cooked through, let the pizzas cool slightly, dip into the sauce and enjoy!

Notes

  • For grilling method, omit the campfire sticks
  • Place the pockets onto a baking sheet and place over indirect heat on the grill to bake
