Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 cloves of garlic – sliced – or 2 tsp. of garlic powder
  • 1 medium yellow onion – chopped
  • 2 cups of ketchup
  • 1 8 oz. bottle or can of Coke
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. of white wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp. of yellow mustard
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 tsp. of ground black pepper

Instructions

  1. Saute the onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Or, until the onions become translucent and tender
  2. Add the ketchup, Coke, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and mustard
  3. Crumble a bay leaf in your hands and add that to the sauce. Finally, add the pepper
  4. Let the sauce come to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about an hour – stirring occasionally
  5. Let the sauce cool down, and transfer it to a blender or food processor
  6. Grind the sauce so the bits of onion, garlic, and bay leaf is super fine
  7. Transfer the sauce into jars for storing and pouring

Notes

To thin sauce that has become to thick – add chicken or beef broth until it the texture you are looking for

 

Storing: Homemade sauce can last up to 10 days, covered in the refrigerator
