Santa hat Rice Krispies Treat


  • 3 Tbsp. of unsalted butter
  • 1 package (10 oz.) Marshmallows
  • OR
  • 4 cups of Miniature Marshmallows
  • 6 cups of rice cereal
  • red food coloring – liquid or gel
  • white icing

Other equipment:

  • piping bag with a star tip attached
  • wax paper
  • 2 (9 inch) round cake pans




  • melt the butter in a saucepan – over medium heat
  • add the marshmallows and stir in until melted
  • remove from heat
  • add food coloring until you achieve your desired color
  • in a large mixing bowl – add your rice cereal
  • pour the food coloring over the cereal
  • transfer to 2 round wax paper-lined cake pans (you really only need to set a square of wax paper over the cake pans and let the weight of the marshmallow cereal pull it down)
  • mash the cereal down with a greased silicone spatula until it’s pretty level
  • let cool for at least 30 minutes – up to an hour
  • remove the wax paper from the pan and push the paper down
  • cut into 8 equal pieces
  • fill your piping bag with white icing and decorate the brim with 4-5 stars going across and the tip of the hat with 1 star

If you’ve been too impatient like I was and you decorated the treats while they are warm and gooey, you might see separation at the bottom of your Santa hat. You wouldn’t think that a little bit of frosting would weigh it down, but it does. Just cut that edge off, and wait a little longer until it’s set (the marshmallow has cooled enough so it’s more firm) and decorate again.



Store at room temperature in an air-tight container for up to 3 days.
