Stew Leonards In CT and NY – Review

How much do you love grocery shopping with your kids in tow? Not so much. Right?!

Well, get ready for some shopping fun-with your kids!  Yes, you read that correctly-shopping fun with your kids! I know it sounds crazy, but at Stew Leonard’s, kids will have so much fun watching the animatronic shows, and sampling the wonderful food; that they won’t mind a bit, that they are in a grocery store for well over an hour!  You’ll enjoy sampling many tasty treats, and gourmet food.  And, you’ll look forward to eating the whole portion for dinner.  Of course, you won’t be able to leave without checking out. That’s usually when their patience has run out! But, there’s something fun for the kids to do there too.  They can throw coins into an animal display (all goes to charity) to hear fun noises!  Last, but not least, stop in at the ice cream shop and get a soft serve Stew Leonard’s Ice Cream Cone. Yum.

Mom’s Rating:
I’ve never had so much fun shopping with kids.  When we have family come to town, this is a tourist spot for us to take them.  The perks are that we come home with lots of yummy, unique food. The only drawbacks are having to wait 4 times at each button, so each kid can have their turn to push the button, and not having a spot to sit and eat your ice cream-bring towels for you poor car!

Get ready to spend some money. Everything tastes so good, you’ll want to take it home for dinner.  Good Luck!

Is There Anything That Made This Mom Nervous?:
Getting in someone’s way in the grocery maze.  It’s kind of like being a tourist, and going slowly down the streets.  You know your going to get honked at, and told off at any second.  That’s never happened though.  I think the shoppers are used to kids hanging around the buttons!

Our Experience:
A friend of mine mentioned that her and her family went to Stew Leonard,s grocery for a fun time.  She said it was a big hit with the kids, and I was intrigued.  So, to my husband’s dismay-as his time watching golf was sadly interrupted-we headed out to go grocery shopping with all four kids!  What?!

My parents were in town, and my dad always enjoys a free food sample.  Boy did we hit the jack pot.  As soon as we entered the door, we tasted clam chowder, apple cider doughnuts, cheese, chicken, chips, you name it-we ate it.  And, it all went into our shopping cart.

The first time you go, it can be a little crazy. The store is laid out like a maze, and most people go one way.  It’s a little unnerving to be the new one, and not have the traffic patterns down.  But we figured it out, and the kids had a blast eating all of the food, and pushing buttons for a dancing cheese, dancing chicken, dancing banana, dancing milk, cows that moo, and fog horns!  Not to mention the acrobats on the ceiling!  So fun.
