{Easy and Delicious} Chocolate Covered Cherries Recipe – Kid Friendly Things To Do

1/2 cup of powdered sugar

1/4 cup of softened butter

1 tsp. of almond extract

2 jars of maraschino cherries

1 (10 oz.) bag of chocolate melts

Instructions

  • Drain all of the cherry juice, and place the cherries between paper towel
  • Combine the sugar, butter, milk, and extract. The mixture will feel like play dough or fondant

  • Grab a pinch of the fondant, and flatten it into a circle about 2 inches in diameter

  • Place the cherry into the center of the circle, and wrap the fondant around the cherry
  • Place down on the baking sheet that is lined with wax paper 
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours

  • Melt the chocolate by either heating it on the stove top while constantly stirring, or popping a glass bowl of chocolate into the microwave for about 1 minute, pulling it out to stir half-way through
  • Dip the sugar-coated cherries into the chocolate by holding the stem, and submerging the cherry all the way to the stem, making sure the chocolate is sealed completely over the cherry

  • Place on a wax paper lined baking sheet – an allow to cool until chocolate is set
  • Store these in a covered container in the refrigerator, and Refrigerate 1-2 weeks before serving. This allows the sugar to interact with the cherry juice, and break down into the pink sugar juice that you are used to when biting into chocolate covered cherries! 🙂
