Individual Hand Held Apple Pies

Materials

  • 2 Tbsp. butter unsalted
  • 5 medium apples peeled, and chopped or sliced
  • 1 Tbsp. lemon juice
  • cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ tsp. cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp. ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • ½ tsp. vanilla
  • 4 refrigerated pie crusts

Topping:

  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. unsalted melted butter

Instructions

  • Using a large bowl, coat apples, tossing them in lemon juice
  • Over medium heat in a large skillet, melt the butter
  • Add apples, and cook until tender for about 5 minutes
  • Mix the brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and cloves together
  • Add the spice mixture to the apples.
  • Continue to cook for about 5 more minutes, or until mixture thickens, and apples look tender
  • Remove the mixture from heat, and stir in the vanilla
  • Remove the pie crusts from the tin liner, and place them on a lightly floured surface
  • Add 1/4 of the mixture to the center of each one, and spread it out a little
  • Fold the crust over so the edges meet together
  • Fold the edges up and over to form a thick crust, and push in with your thumb along the edge
  • Prick the top with a fork
  • Transfer to a baking sheet
  • Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown
  • Mix the cinnamon and sugar together
  • Brush the top of the pies with the melted butter, and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture
  • Cool, and cut in half (you should now have 8 total)
  • Wrap each one with a cloth napkin, and tie to make it easier to hold
