Coca-Cola Barbecue Sauce

Materials

  • 2 Tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic - sliced - or two tsp. of garlic powder
  • 1 medium yellow onion - chopped
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 8 oz. Coke
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. white wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp. yellow mustard
  • 1 bay leaf
  • ¼ tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Saute the onion and garlic in olive oil over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Or, until the onions become translucent and tender
  • Add the ketchup, Coke, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, and mustard
  • Crumble a bay leaf in your hands and add that to the sauce. Finally, add the pepper
  • Let the sauce come to a boil, then reduce the heat, cover, and let it simmer for about an hour - stirring occasionally
  • Let the sauce cool down, and transfer it to a blender or food processor
  • Grind the sauce so the bits of onion, garlic, and bay leaf is super fine
  • Transfer the sauce into jars for storing and pouring

Notes

To thin sauce that has become to thick - add chicken or beef broth until it the texture you are looking for
 
Storing: Homemade sauce can last up to 10 days, covered in the refrigerator
