Materials

  • towels brown - bath towels for adult sized reindeer, hand towels for kids, washcloths for babies
  • Paper Clips
  • rubberbands
  • foam sheets
  • googly eyes
  • ribbon
  • Jingle Bells
  • Red pom-poms
  • Glitter paper
  • Glue
  • Wooden Dowels and skewers

Instructions

  • Lay your towel out on your work surface and fold it in thirds - lengthwise. You'll fold one side so that the edge is in the middle, and then fold the other side the same way so that both edges are in the middle of the towel
  • Now that you have your towel folded, roll both edges toward the middle and secure them together on the ends with paper clips
  • Take a rubber band and place it around the design of the towel ONLY on one end. If you don't have a design, then go about 4-5 inches up and secure it with a rubber band. This will pull the legs together and secure them even more
  • Take the other half of your towel, fold it up and over - lining it up so the ends are all evenly aligned
  • The towel will look flat on top - don't worry, you'll fix that soon
  • Take your hand and push down the center of the towel (only at the end where the other legs are). It should start to look like 2 more legs
  • Secure the two legs together with another paper clip - you'll have 5 paper clips in total on the bottom of the feet
  • Now fold the top part of the towel, which should still be flat, over the top to make the head
  • Wrap a rubber band around it, above where the nose would be to hold it in place
  • Wrap another rubber band around the neck

Decorating:

  • For adult-sized towels and kids' sizes (bath and hand towels), place a red ribbon around the rubberband on the neck and glue to secure it,
  • On the bath towel, the larger reindeer, add a bell in the center
  • Cover the rubberband on the face with more ribbon (wide for adult reindeer, narrow for kids and babies)
  • Glue bells across the ribbon of adult, and kid-sized reindeer
  • Keeping in mind that we want to use these towels, cut the wider ribbon about double the length of the googly eyes, glue the googly eyes to the top portion of the ribbon
  • Slip the ribbon that is still exposed behind the face ribbon
  • Glue the red pom-pom to the ribbon that is still exposed and now hanging down
  • Cut antlers from the glitter paper and ears from the foam
  • Tuck those into the ear of the towel
  • Push dowels into the legs of the reindeer to give them stability for standing

Kids (hand towels)

  • Differences:
the ribbon will be a thinner ribbon in both neck and face areas
There is no bell on the neck
Skewers were broken to fit into the leg areas

Baby (washcloth)

  • The differences are:
    No neck ribbon or bells
    Skewers are not necessary
