Reindeer Towels
I love Christmas Crafts and Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas. These towel reindeer are both tied into one. This snowman candy bar gift idea is so sweet. Kids will go crazy over this adorable Candy Sleigh Christmas Craft, or Snowman Hot Chocolate Kit.
I made this reindeer towel craft out of a need my Facebook Page made known to me. I shared a cute picture of the cutest Rudolph Towels that someone had made for their family and started receiving messages asking how to make them. It wasn’t my original idea, so I wasn’t sure. I searched for instructions on the internet to give my Facebook friends a link to show them, but there really wasn’t anything out there aside from a decorative reindeer towel to hang up in the bathroom. I watched the video, made some adjustments, and came up with a “how to make reindeer towels” with tons of pictures to show you the step-by-step. I hope this fulfills a need for people looking for a guide on making these cute little Rudolph towels for their friends and family at Christmas.
What I love about this Christmas Craft
- This towel reindeer craft is so stinking cute.
- Once you get the hang of making them, you’ll see that it is such an easy Christmas gift to make
- These are a great Christmas decoration as well as a Christmas gift
Supplies Needed
towels -The size of the towel will dictate the size of your reindeer. It really depends on what size reindeer towel you want to use. If you use a bath towel, you’ll end up with an adult reindeer. A reindeer hand towel is what I refer to as a kid or teenager reindeer. A washcloth-sized towel clearly makes a baby reindeer washcloth
rubberbands – get yourself a box of various-sized rubberbands. You will end up using a few different sizes
foam sheets – You’ll cut these for reindeer ears
googly eyes – various sizes. I would hold up different sizes to your towel face and see which size you think is the cutest. You can’t go wrong with big eyes for any size reindeer
ribbon – I got two sizes of red ribbon. I used a wider ribbon (1 inch) for the neck of the adult reindeer and a thin ribbon (1/2 inch) for the nose. I will provide links to Amazon for the exact ones I purchased
Jingle Bells – I ordered a box of different-sized bells. Again, you’ll use different sizes for the neck and the nose, so grab a box of assorted-sized bells
Red pom-poms – Assorted sizes for adults and kids. The large pom-poms are the cutest
Glitter paper – Gold glitter cardstock is what you’ll want to use for the antlers
Glue – I like to use a glue called Fabri-Tac – It gets gummy and sticks almost immediately. It’s a nice alternative to hot glue
Paper Clips – I used paper clips to secure the towels. I wanted the people I gift them to, to be able to actually use the towels. If you glue the towels in any way it becomes unusable
Dowels and skewers – I completely forgot to order dowels for this craft, so I used what I had on hand. My idea for the dowels was to add stability to the taller reindeer so they could stand up. My dowels were about 1/4 inch and the skewers are even thinner. If I had remembered to order dowels, I would have gotten wider dowels. The legs will be way more stable with wide dowels. The skewers are great for the smaller reindeer because you can literally snap them to resize them to the legs
How to Make Reindeer Towels
Adult Reindeer
Lay your towel out on your work surface and fold it in thirds – lengthwise. You’ll fold one side so that the edge is in the middle, and then fold the other side the same way so that both edges are in the middle of the towel
Now that you have your towel folded, roll both edges toward the middle and secure them together on the ends with paper clips
Take a rubber band and place it around the design of the towel ONLY on one end. If you don’t have a design, then go about 4-5 inches up and secure it with a rubber band. This will pull the legs together and secure them even more
Take the other half of your towel, fold it up and over – lining it up so the ends are all evenly aligned
The towel will look flat on top – don’t worry, you’ll fix that soon
Take your hand and push down the center of the towel (only at the end where the other legs are). It should start to look like 2 more legs
Secure the two legs together with another paper clip – you’ll have 5 paper clips in total on the bottom of the feet
Now fold the top part of the towel, which should still be flat, over the top to make the head
Wrap a rubber band around it, above where the nose would be to hold it in place
Wrap another rubber band around the neck
Decorating:
For adult-sized towels and kids’ sizes (bath and hand towels), place a red ribbon around the rubberband on the neck and glue to secure it
On the bath towel, the larger reindeer, add a bell in the center
Cover the rubberband on the face with more ribbon (wide for adult reindeer, narrow for kids and babies)
Glue bells across the ribbon of adult, and kid-sized reindeer
Keeping in mind that we want to use these towels and not glue eyes directly to the towel, cut the wider ribbon about double the length of the googly eyes, glue the googly eyes to the top portion of the ribbon
Slip the ribbon that is still exposed behind the face ribbon
Glue the red pom-pom to the ribbon that is still exposed and now hanging down
Cut antlers from the glitter paper and ears from the foam
Tuck those into the towel
Push dowels into the legs of the reindeer to give them stability for standing
Kid Reindeer – Hand Towels
The only differences are:
You will not need to fold the towel first. You will only need to roll the edges to the center.
the ribbon will be thinner in both neck and face areas
There is no bell on the neck
Skewers were broken to fit into the leg areas
Baby Reindeer Washcloth
The differences are:
No neck ribbon or bells
Skewers are not necessary
Expert Tips
Wider dowels will give more stability to the taller towels. They can get top-heavy without them
Only if you don’t intend on using the towel as a towel. The glue will ruin the softness of the towel
I like to glue my crafts with Fabri-Tac glue. I found it years ago in the craft store. It sticks and holds almost immediately. I usually try to use it as an alternative to hot glue
