Bubbling Witch Cauldron Craft for Kids

This bubbling witch cauldron craft combines a printable cauldron with painted potion bubbles, a fuzzy spider, and a miniature broom. It’s such a cute Halloween project for kids to personalize.
My favorite part is stamping the bubbling potion with an empty toilet paper roll. The overlapping, imperfect green circles make every cauldron look a little different—and the spider and raffia broom add so much personality.
When I made this craft, I found that a glue stick worked well for the paper pieces, but the pom-pom, googly eyes, and raffia needed stronger tacky glue. Younger children will have fun stamping and decorating their cauldrons, while an adult can help prepare the smaller details.

Why You’ll Love This Witch Cauldron Craft
- The cauldron printable makes the project easy to start.
- A cardboard tube creates wonderfully imperfect potion bubbles.
- Children can choose their own paint colors and decorations.
- The pom-pom spider and raffia broom add fun texture.
- Younger children can complete it with some adult preparation.
- It makes an adorable Halloween decoration when finished.
Supplies for This Cauldron Craft

| Supply | Purpose | Helpful note |
|---|---|---|
| Cauldron printable | Forms the base of the craft | Print it on regular printer paper |
| White cardstock | Holds the complete project | Cardstock supports the heavier decorations better than printer paper |
| Green and white washable paint | Creates the potion bubbles | Mix the colors to make a lighter lime green |
| Empty cardboard toilet paper roll | Stamps the bubbles | Keep one end round for stamping |
| Black pom-pom | Makes the spider | Use a larger pom-pom that is easy to handle |
| Two small googly eyes | Creates the spider’s face | Small parts require adult supervision |
| Black marker | Draws the web and spider legs | A fine-tip marker works well |
| Brown construction paper | Makes the broom handle | Cut it into one long, narrow strip |
| Raffia | Makes the broom bristles | Yarn or thin strips of paper can be substituted |
| Orange-and-white string or cording | Decorates the cauldron | Yarn or ribbon will also work |
| Glue stick | Attaches paper pieces | Best for the printable and paper broom handle |
| Tacky or liquid school glue | Secures the textured pieces | Use this for the pom-pom, eyes, and raffia |
| Scissors | Cuts the printable and paper | Adult supervision may be needed |
| Wax paper | Protects the work surface | It also provides a convenient place to mix the paint |
Cauldron Printable Template
Download and print the witch cauldron printable, cut it out, and glue it near the bottom of a sheet of white cardstock. Leave plenty of open space above the cauldron for the bubbling potion.
How to Make a Witch Cauldron Craft
Step 1: Prepare the Paint
Place a small amount of green washable paint on wax paper. Mix in a little white paint until you have the shade of lime green you want.

Step 2: Stamp the Potion Bubbles
Dip one end of an empty cardboard tube into the paint. Stamp circles above the cauldron, allowing some of them to overlap. Continue stamping until the potion looks like it is bubbling out of the pot.

Step 3: Make the Pom-Pom Spider
Glue two googly eyes onto a black pom-pom. Once the glue begins to set, attach the spider to the upper corner of the cardstock.
Use a black marker to draw a web line extending from the top of the paper to the spider. Draw four legs on each side of its body.

Step 4: Make the Witch’s Broom
Cut a long, narrow broom handle from brown construction paper. Gather a small bundle of raffia and tie it securely near one end.
Trim the raffia if necessary, and glue it near the bottom of the paper handle. Attach the completed broom beside the cauldron.

Step 5: Decorate the Cauldron
Cut a piece of orange-and-white cording, string, ribbon, or yarn long enough to stretch across the front of the cauldron. Tie it into a small bow and glue it around the cauldron’s rim.
Allow the craft to lie flat until all of the glue has dried. Liquid school glue may need several hours or overnight to dry completely.
Melissa’s Crafting Tips
- A glue stick is strong enough for the printable and construction paper.
- Use tacky glue for the pom-pom, googly eyes, and raffia. It holds the textured materials more securely and generally dries faster than school glue.
- If children are using liquid school glue, make the craft in stages or leave it flat overnight.
- Press the cardboard tube lightly into the paint. Too much paint can cause the circles to smear.
- Overlapping and uneven bubbles make the potion look more playful, so the stamping does not need to be perfect.
- Prepare the spider and broom ahead of time when making this with younger children.
- Protect the table with wax paper or another disposable covering.
Making This Halloween Craft with Younger Kids
The bubble stamping is an excellent part of this project for preschoolers and younger elementary-aged children. They can also glue on the printable cauldron and choose where to place their decorations.
The broom and spider require more coordination. Bundling and tying the raffia, handling tiny googly eyes, and making a small bow may be difficult for little hands. An adult can prepare those pieces beforehand or help children complete them.
Because the googly eyes are small parts, closely supervise young children.
Witch Cauldron Craft Variations
| Try this | How to change the craft |
|---|---|
| Different potion colors | Stamp purple, orange, or neon-green bubbles |
| Paper spider | Replace the pom-pom and googly eyes with a paper spider |
| Yarn broom | Substitute brown or tan yarn for the raffia |
| Easier cauldron decoration | Glue a straight piece of ribbon across the rim instead of tying a bow |
| Classroom version | Prepare the cauldrons, spiders, and brooms before the activity and let children concentrate on stamping and arranging the pieces |
| Sparkling potion | Add a small amount of washable glitter paint to the bubbles |
Frequently Asked Questions
What age is this cauldron craft for?
Older elementary-aged children may be able to complete it independently. Preschoolers and younger elementary-aged children can make it with adult preparation and assistance.
What kind of paint should I use?
Washable children’s paint or tempera paint works well. Mixing green paint with a little white produces the lighter potion color shown in the photos.
Can I use school glue?
Yes. Liquid school glue can attach the pom-pom, eyes, and raffia, but it will take longer to dry. Leave the project lying flat for several hours or overnight. Tacky glue provides a quicker, stronger hold.
What can I use instead of raffia?
Tan or brown yarn, shredded construction paper, or thin strips of a brown paper bag can be used for the broom bristles.
Does the spider have to be glued on?
No. Children can draw a spider directly onto the cardstock if you want to eliminate the pom-pom, googly eyes, and drying time.
How long does this craft take?
Allow approximately 25–30 minutes of active crafting time. Drying time will depend upon the type and amount of glue used.
