An easy to make dragon sock puppet to make
Prep Time10 minutes
Active Time10 minutes
Total Time20 minutes
Yield: 1 puppet
Author: Melissa Haines
Cost: $5

Materials

  • Sock - I found a mismatched sock with colorful stripes that I thought was perfect. A polka-dot sock would be really fun too
  • Googly Eyes - large in size
  • Foam Paper - any color to use for the mouth and forked tongue
  • White foam paper - for the teeth
  • Stiff felt or foam paper for the spikes
  • Glue - You can use fabric glue or a tacky craft glue that you like
  • Felt Sheets or Foam Sheets - Red and yellow for the fire coming out of the mouth
  • Large Pom-Poms - to go behind the eyes
  • Felt Paper - cut into teardrop-shaped for fun eye embellishments
  • Small pom-poms - for the nose

Instructions

  • Cut an oval that is about 3 inches long for the mouth out of foam paper
  • Cut white teeth to go on the front and back of the mouth
  • Glue both on the underside of the sock so you have a mouth with teeth at the front and the back
  • Cut stiff felt, felt or foam paper to make the spikes going down the dragons back and glue it to the top of the sock going down the middle
  • For the eyes, glue the googly eyes to the front of the large pom-poms and glue those to the top of the sock where the toes would go
  • Add the two smaller pom-poms in front of the eyes as nostrils
  • Glue the tear-drop pieces of felt to the back of the eyes so the pointed ends peak over the eyes
  • Make fire for the mouth out of your felt and foam. I made it look like a forked tongue, but you can add more cuts to make for flames. Use red as the base and make a smaller yellow to layer on top
