Equipment

  • blender
  • ice cream scoop
  • Measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • 2 (15-ounce) old-fashioned soda fountain glasses (optional but fun!)

Materials

  • 4 cups vanilla ice cream (about 8 large scoops)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. vanilla bean paste Optional:
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Rainbow chocolate sprinkles
  • Maraschino cherries

Instructions

  • Pour the whole milk into the blender.
  • Add the vanilla extract (or vanilla bean paste, if using).
  • Add the vanilla ice cream.
  • Blend on low just until smooth and creamy.
  • Avoid overblending.
  • Pour into two 15-ounce glasses.
  • Top with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and a maraschino cherry.
  • Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for the richest, creamiest texture.
  • Keep the ice cream in the freezer until you're ready to blend so it stays as cold as possible.
  • Don't add ice. If your milkshake is too thin, blend in another scoop of ice cream instead.
  • Vanilla bean paste adds a richer vanilla flavor and beautiful vanilla bean specks.
  • This recipe makes 2 large (15-ounce) milkshakes.
