Minion Mason Jar Craft

Make an adorable Minion Mason Jar Craft using colored rice, a free printable Minion goggles template, googly eyes, and a few simple craft supplies. This easy Despicable Me-inspired craft is perfect for birthday parties, classrooms, rainy days, or summer craft time with kids.

Equipment

  • Baking Sheet

  • Gallon-size zip-top bags
  • Scissors

Materials

For the jars

  • 2 ½-pint mason jars with lids purchase plastic mason jars to make this craft extra kid-friendly
  • uncooked white rice
  • large googly eyes (assorted sizes)
  • glue stick
  • black cord or yarn
  • clear tape

For the rice

Instructions

  • Step 1

    Color the rice by mixing 1 cup of uncooked white rice with 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and food coloring in a zip-top bag. Shake until evenly coated, then spread the rice onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and let it dry completely before using.
  • Step 2

    Print the free Minion goggles template and cut out the goggles and straps for the style of Minion you'd like to make.
  • Step 3

    Fill the bottom of each mason jar with blue colored rice to create the Minion's overalls.
  • Step 4
    Add yellow colored rice until the jar is full, packing it gently to help keep the blue and yellow layers from mixing.
  • Step 5
    Screw the lid securely onto the mason jar.
  • Step 6
    Glue the printable strap around the jar, then glue the printable goggles in place. Finish by attaching the googly eye(s) over the printed goggles with a glue stick.
  • Step 7
    If you'd like to add hair, tape or glue a few short pieces of black cord to the top of the lid.
  • Step 8
    Use a black Sharpie to draw a smile, frown, or silly Minion expression. Your Minion Mason Jar Craft is ready to display!
