Equipment

  • Silver or Black paper straws
  • #67 Wilton Leaf tip
  • piping bag
  • Scissors
  • Serving platter

Materials

  • 2 9-inch square yellow cakes - baked
  • 16 oz. Black frosting You can make your own with chocolate frosting and black food coloring
  • 2 red Pull ’n’ Peel licorice twists, separated into individual strands
  • 3 oz. White Frosting

Instructions

  • 1. Stack the two baked square cakes on a serving platter. Add frosting between the layers if desired.
  • 2. Cover the stacked cakes with black frosting. If you cannot find prepared black frosting, mix chocolate frosting with black gel food coloring.
  • 3. Place a piece of Pull ’n’ Peel licorice in the middle of the cake in a sideways candy-cane shape.
  • 4. Fit a piping bag with a #67 Wilton leaf tip and fill it with white frosting. Pipe one large W so its bottom section overlaps the licorice in the center of the cake. Pipe a smaller W inside the larger W.
  • 5. Cut four paper straws so they will extend about four inches above the cake when inserted. Place one straw into each corner of the cake.
  • 6. Wrap Pull ’n’ Peel licorice around the paper straws to create the wrestling-ring ropes. Use eight pieces, trimming them to fit the length of the cake. Press the licorice ends together around the straws until they stick and form tight loops.

Notes

Store the cake in a covered cake container at room temperature for two to four days. It will taste freshest within the first two days. If your kitchen is especially warm or humid, refrigerate the covered cake and allow it to come to room temperature before serving.
