Equipment

  • parchment paper
  • paint brushes

Materials

  • 24 oz. Sugar Cookie Dough I used pre-made refrigerated sugar cookie dough
  • 3 Egg Whites Divided - I divided three egg whites into 6 Dixie Cups
  • Food Coloring 5 assorted colors

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven according to sugar cookie recipe instructions
  • Bake sugar cookies for 7 minutes or until the cookies are just a few minutes away from being done.
  • While those are baking, prepare your paints.
  • Squeeze a drop or two of food coloring into all but one egg white. LEAVE ONE EGG WHITE CLEAR
  • Pull the partially-baked cookies out of the oven
  • Let the baking sheet cool off so it is cool to the touch. The cookies will need to be cooled off as well so they do not crumble apart. This should only take 1-2 minutes.
  • You can leave your cookies on the baking sheet or transfer them to a paper plate for painting
  • Using your clear egg white, brush each cookie with a coating of egg white  - this provides a seal for the colored egg whites so they won't disappear into the cookie.
  • Let the kids use the different colored egg whites to paint their creations
  • Bake their finished cookies for 3-4 more minutes to cook the egg white, and finish baking the cookie
  • Let the cookies cool down. The egg whites will harden into a nice glaze.
