How To Make Delicious Crescent Roll Apple Dumplings

A delicious and easy to make fall dessert treat

Ingredients

  • 2 Granny Smith apples
  • 2 cans of crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 cup of butter (unsalted) – 1 whole stick
  • 1&1/2 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of Sprite or other similar soda

Instructions

  • preheat your oven to 350 degrees and butter a 9×11 baking dish
  • peel, core, and slice apples into 8 equal wedges
  • unroll crescent dough and place an apple slice near the bottom (wide) section
  • roll the crescent dough around the apple slice and place seam side down onto the buttered baking dish
  • repeat with the rest of the apples and triangle dough pieces
  • in a small saucepan, heat the butter until melted
  • add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved
  • Add vanilla extract and stir in
  • pour sauce over crescent rolls – covering every part of them
  • pour the Sprite in between rolls – careful to avoid the dough
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes

Notes

How far in advance can I make these apple dumplings?

I wouldn’t know by experience, because they didn’t last 5 minutes on the plate, but in theory…

For ultimate freshness, They should be eaten the day of making them.

To make apple dumplings in advance, you can make the apple dumplings as far as rolling apple slices into a crescent roll and placing them onto a baking dish. Cover and refrigerate for up to 2 days. On the day of baking, pour the caramel sauce and lemon-lime soda and bake.

Storing Leftovers: Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 2 days

Reheating Leftovers: Reheat on a plate in the microwave until heated through or cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees until heated through (about 5-10 minutes)

Tips and Tricks:

  • Pour the caramel sauce directly onto your crescent-rolled apples, but pour your soda pop in between crescent rolls. You don’t want to wash the caramel off of your rolls
  • These apple dumplings should really be served while still warm and fresh
  • Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream
  • You can halve this recipe by cutting the butter, rolls, sugar, soda, and apples in half. Still use the full 1 tsp. of vanilla extract
