Olaf Floating in a Pool of Jello {A Frozen Themed Food Idea}

A fun Frozen the Movie food idea with the character Olaf

Yield: 4 servings

Author: Melissa
Cost: $10

Equipment

  • Summer themed straws or party drink umbrellas
  • I used individual glass bowls for individual pools they are 4 inches across the top and they hold 4 oz. of liquid - you could use small plastic clear bowls or small clear cups - keep in mind that Olaf is about 3 inches from top to bottom, so your jello surface needs to be at least that

Materials

  • 3 Regular sized marshmallows
  • 12 Mini marshmallows
  • 3 oz. Blue Jello
  • 7 oz. Brown icing in tube (or pastry bag) with a round writing tip It was near Halloween time when I was lucky enough to  find black and orange icing tubes in the baking aisle of Walmart - and I  used chocolate frosting for the brown - placed in a piping bag with a writing tip
  • 7 oz. Black icing in a tube (or pastry bag) with a round writing tip
  • 1 oz. Orange Icing in tube (or pastry bag) with round riting tip

Instructions

Jello:

  • I just followed the directions on the back of the Gelatin box which was to (in a small bowl) add 1 cup of hot water to the jello powder and let it dissolve, then add 1 cup of cold water
  • Pour the warm jello - evenly, into 4 separate serving bowls
  • Place those in the refrigerator to let the jello solidify

Making Olaf:

  • Once the jello had set up, you can get to work on making Olaf
  • You'll need a regular sized marshmallow
How to make Olaf Jello Treat for Frozen Themed Parties
  • Cut it into 3 pieces
  • One piece is for the head, and one for his bum - that one is turned sideways
How to make Olaf Jello Treat for Frozen Themed Parties
  • Mini marshmallows are used for the middle portion of Olaf (his waist), and feet
  • Now you can decorate with frosting -  use black for buttons, eyes, and mouth, some orange frosting for the carrot nose, and brown frosting for the hair, eyebrows, and arms
How to make Olaf Jello Treat for Frozen Themed Parties
  • You'll use a small round writing tip for all of the frosting needed, or if you are lucky enough to find icing in tubes with writing tips already - those should work too
  • To add a special touch, decorate Jello treat with fun summer umbrellas

Notes

You can use frosting or icing for decorating purposes
Making this Ahead of Time:
  • As I stated in the post... you can make the Jell-O  ahead, but I would hold off decorating with marshmallows and frosting until shortly before serving. If you add marshmallows to Jell-O they will absorb some water from the Jell-O. If you add them too early, they may get mushy.
  • Just like the marshmallows, frosting and/or icing will also absorb water. The frosting will eventually dissolve and turn into a puddle
Storing Olaf - This dessert is best served right away, but if you need to store him - cover the individual cups or bowls with clear wrap and store them in the refrigerator for up to one day.
For reference
Olaf when completed is about 3 inches from the top to the bottom
