You can add the decorations to a pan of brownies or wait until you’ve cut it into squares and removed them from the pan to decorate each one.

Tips and tricks for making Halloween Brownies:

  • use a box brownie mix and make the cake-like version of the recipe – usually, that just means you will add one more egg to the batter
  • you’ll get more brownies if you use a 13×9-inch pan
  • grease the pan
  • wait until the brownie has completely cooled before frosting
  • melt an entire 11-12 oz. bag to get several haunted trees
  • use wax paper to make trees on and use a candy squeeze bottle
  • add candy eyes to trees for a cute haunted tree, and add black frosting eyebrows to make them appear angry
  • use red nonpareils for bat eyes
  • decorate candy pumpkins with cookie frosting to make Jack-O-Lanterns
  • add decorated candies to your batch of brownies or individual brownie squares

How many trees will you need?:

  • It depends. If you just want to decorate the pan, then 4 to 5 will do. If you plan on making haunted squares, then you’ll probably need at least 12

How much chocolate should I melt?

  • If you are only making 5 trees, then you can probably melt 4-6 oz.
  • For 1 dozen or more trees, melt the entire 12 oz. bag

Equipment

  • wax paper
  • candy squeeze bottle

Ingredients

  • 1 9×13 in. prepared pan of brownies cooled – I used milk chocolate brownies
  • 1 16 oz. chocolate cake frosting
  • 1 12 oz. melting chocolate brown
  • candy eyes
  • red nonpareils – sometimes called candy pearls
  • 15 candy pumpkins
  • 1 7 oz. black cookie frosting

Instructions

  • Prepare brownies in a 13×9 inch pan and cool completely
  • while those are cooling, prepare decorations
  • place wax paper on your work surface
  • melt chocolate melts in a glass microwavable proof bowl
  • pour melted chocolate into a squeeze bottle
  • using the squeeze bottle, start making trees onto the wax paper

Trees:

  • using the melted chocolate in the squeeze bottle, make a  line that’s about 4 inches tall going up and down on wax paper
    how to make chocolate trees
  • make the line wider by continuing to go up and down on either side with more chocolate – you are making the main trunk
  • at the top make a large V for 2 branches, add more lines of chocolate to your brances for added thickness
  • make small Vs at the end of the branches
  • add more branches to your tree, sprouting off of the main trunk

Adding Decorations to Trees:

  • while chocolate trees are still warm and melted, add candy eyes – the white candy eyes to the center of the tree and the red candy eyes in the branches
  • when the trees have completely hardened, add black eyebrows to make the tree appear angry

Pumpkins:

  • use cookie frosting to make Jack-O-Lanterns – making round eyes and a long oval mouth

Decorating brownies:

  • frost the brownies
  • either place decorations directly onto the big pan, by pushing them down into the frosted brownies
  • Or, cut brownies into squares and decorate them individually
