  • 1/2 cup of oats – I used Quick Cook
  • 1 stick of unsalted butter (8 Tbsp.)
  • heavy-duty foil – 2  (18 inch long pieces)

DIY Foil Pie Pan

  • layer the 2 foil pieces
  • pull the sides up so there is about a 2-inch wall
  • form a circle in the middle that is about 9 inches wide

  • Pour the can of apple pie filling into the center
  • Pour the nutmeg over the filling
  • Fold the spice into pie filling
  • Spread the pie filling over the center of the foil pan

  • In a medium bowl or in a large zip-tight bag, add the flour, sugar and oats and mix well
  • Shake the topping over the filling
  • Slice the butter into 1/2 Tbsp. slices and scatter them around the topping – covering the topping
  • Place on grill heated to medium heat –  over indirect heat
  • Close the lid on the grill
  • Cook for about 20-25 minutes or until the topping is golden and filling is bubbling
  • Remove from heat
  • Use a large spoon to scoop out individual portions
  • Optional – add a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream to the center of the entire dessert or onto individual servings

Using an oven or grill grate over campfire…

  • Grill grate – place pie foil pan over indirect heat and cook as directed above
  • Oven – preheat the oven to 350 degrees, bake for about 30-35 minutes
