These fishing cupcakes are so incredibly simple to make and scream summertime. I grew up fishing with my dad, so I know what memories this American pastime makes. These fishing cupcakes are a great way to reflect on the good times made during a fishing trip or a great way to celebrate your little one being O-fish-ally One!
What you’ll love about this recipe:
Ingredients You’ll Need

- pre-baked and cooled cupcakes
- blue frosting
- mini pretzel sticks
- Goldfish – I only used the original orange colored goldfish, but these would be cute with the rainbow version
- white frosting
Equipment Needed
Piping bag with a writing tip
Cupcake Wrappers – I love the basket weave cupcake wrappers. It reminds me of the old fishing Creels.
How to Make these Fishing Cupcakes
Frost the Cupcakes:
Spread blue frosting over the top of each cupcake to resemble water. You can use a silicone spreader for a smooth finish, or use a piping bag fitted with a large round or open star tip for a more decorative, textured look.

Add the Pretzel Fishing Pole:
Gently press a pretzel stick diagonally across the top of each cupcake to represent the fishing pole.
Place the Goldfish:
On the opposite side of the pretzel, add a Goldfish cracker to act as the “catch.” You can lay it flat on the frosting or press the head slightly into the blue icing so it looks like it’s peeking out of the water.

Pipe the Fishing Line:
Fill a piping bag fitted with a small round or writing tip with white frosting. Starting at the tip of the pretzel, pipe a line that loops playfully across the cupcake and ends at the Goldfish. The loopy effect makes it extra fun and whimsical!

Pro Tip
When baking cupcakes, fill the cupcake wrappers 3/4 of the way so the cake bakes above the wrapper. I had some flat cupcakes, because I didn’t fill mine full enough, and I didn’t like those as much.
Variations
Kid-Friendly Customization Station – Set out all of the decorations so the kids can make their own fishing cupcake.
Fishing Tackle Box – Decorate a tackle box with your ‘gone fishing’ cupcakes, and add some gummy worms for bait, along with large pretzel sticks with a gummy worm hanging off to represent fishing poles.
