One of my favorite ways to make ordinary lunches feel special is by turning simple ingredients into fun food. These octopus hot dogs became one of those recipes my kids still remember because they look silly, only take a few minutes to make, and somehow make lunch feel like an event instead of just another meal.
These easy octopus hot dogs are made with hot dogs and crescent roll dough and are simple enough for kids to help create. Whether you’re making an ocean-themed lunch, planning an Under the Sea party, or just want a playful summer food idea, these always get smiles before the first bite.

How to Make Octopus Hot Dogs
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
Place parchment paper on a baking sheet
Step 2
Unroll crescent rolls
Place hot dogs onto the wide corner of each crescent roll so that they are centered in the middle and the corner tip is pointing upward

Step 3
Fold the corner over the hot dog

Step 4
Roll the hot dog along with the folded-over crescent roll

Step 5
Place seam side down on paper-lined baking sheet
Step 6
Use a knife to cut slits in the hot dog.

Note: I made six slits in my hot dogs, but someone on Facebook reminded me that an octopus has eight legs. The kids would definitely notice my mistake, so you might want to make eight slits instead.
Step 7
Place hot dogs onto a prepared baking dish
Bake for 11-13 minutes or until the crescent roll is completely cooked
Let them cool for just a minute so they are warm to the touch, and then add eyes and other embellishments you desire with your food markers.
