Easy to Make Sonic Ocean Water Recipe

A delicious drink that you and the kids will absolutely love this summer. With a hint of coconut flavor and sparkling sprite, this drink is as refreshing as it is fun to drink. It’ll almost seem like you’re looking at Caribbean blue water.

Make Ahead and Storage: 

Can I make Sonic’s Ocean Water in advance?

Because there is carbonation in this drink, this drink is best served the day of. Mix the drink well, and serve over ice. You can store it in the refrigerator to get cold and then gently stir it again before serving.

Leftovers: Store in the refrigerator and stir again before serving over ice, or freeze leftovers in your freezer for up to 2 months and make a slushy. Be aware that the carbonation will go down with time, so you won’t have a fizzy drink after it is stored for too long

Thawing frozen Ocean Water: Let thaw in the fridge or at room temperature. You can also place it in the blender and blend it to make a slushy

  • make this drink even more fun and kid-friendly by adding Swedish Fish to the top of your drinks
  • pour over  glasses that are full of ice
  • add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to the drink for a fun summer float
  • you can double the recipe for more drinks
  • if you don’t have access to a stove, you can use a microwave to heat the water in a microwave-safe bowl

  • water – you’ll be dissolving the sugar in water to make a simple syrup for this recipe
  • granulated sugar 
  • coconut extract – you should be able to find this in the baking aisle at your local grocery store
  • Sprite, Sierra Mist, or other lemon-lime soda
  • blue food coloring – I think liquid food coloring is perfect for this particular recipe

  • Add sugar and stir until dissolved and the water has thickened up into a thin syrup consistency
  • In a small pitcher, combine the sprite, coconut extract, syrup that you’ve made, and a couple of drops of food coloring

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 Tbsp. of water
  • 3 Tbsp. of granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. of coconut extract
  • 2 (12 oz.) cans of Sprite
  • blue food coloring – liquid

Instructions

  • Add water and heat up in a small saucepan over medium-high heat
  • Add sugar and stir until dissolved and the water has thickened up into a thin syrup consistency
  • In a small pitcher, combine the sprite, coconut extract, syrup that you’ve made, and a couple of drops of food coloring
  • stir to mix
  • pour over 2 large glasses of ice and enjoy

Need to make this for a crowd? Try these amounts…

2/3 cup of water
2/3 cup of sugar
1 (2 liters) of Sprite
2 Tbsp. of coconut extract
blue food coloring – enough to get the shade of blue you like
