Slow Cooker Homemade Spaghetti Sauce

This is my all time F-A-V-O-R-I-T-E Spaghetti sauce! Fair warning – it’s a spicy one. I like it hot. This is just that! If you don’t like spicy, then you can easily change that. Just buy sweet, or mild Italian Sausage in place of Hot Italian Sausage. This sauce freezes well for simple last minute dinners, too! Love that! Here’s my recipe for the best Homemade Spaghetti Sauce – in a Slow Cooker to boot!

I love, love, love this sauce! Sometimes, when we are out running a zillion errands, I think about this spaghetti sauce, and wish it was at home in the freezer. Yep –  You can freeze the leftovers – if you have any! 🙂  It’s a nice thing to have on busy nights.

Homemade Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce

Delicious, and perfect for freezing

  • 1 lb. of italian sausage – remove casings (I used Hot Italian Sausage)
  • 228 oz. cans of crushed tomatoes
  • 110 oz. can of diced tomatoes with italian herbs
  • 114 oz. can of stewed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. mustard powder
  • 1 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbsp. of dried basil
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. each of salt, and ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. of olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion – diced
  • 1 green pepper – chopped


  1. Place the ground sausage in the bottom of the slow cooker
  2. Add the canned tomatoes to the top of the sausage
  3. Add spices on top
  4. In a skillet over medium heat, sautee the onion and green pepper in the olive oil until they are tender – about 5 minutes
  5. Place the pepper, and onion over the spices
  6. Stir everything together until it is all mixed in, and the meat is broken up
  7. Place the lid on the slow cooker, and set on high
  8. Cook for 4-6 hours
  9. Serve over cooked Spaghetti noodles


  • To avoid water sauce, leave the lid off of the slow cooker for the last hour to allow the water from tomatoes to evaporate
  • Once sauce has cooled, you can freeze the sauce in freezer bags! Just take the sauce out when you are ready, and place in a sauce pan, with a lid on over medium heat until heated through
