Caramel Apple Shaped Cookies! – A Kid Friendly Thing To Eat

Ingredients

Scale
  • Sugar Cookie Dough – if you need a handy dandy recipe for the Best Sugar Cookies Ever – click here
  • red and green food coloring
  • Popsicle sticks – optional
  • Wax paper
  • Parchment paper
  • 2 round cookie cutters – one large, one small

To Make the Bottom Look Like Caramel Apples…

  • Vanilla frosting
  • Chocolate frosting
  • chopped nuts
  • Nuts – optional

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with Parchment Paper
  • Color most of your sugar cookie dough with red food coloring
  • Take a small amount – maybe about 1/2 cup of dough and color it green for the leaves
  • Use wax paper to roll out the red dough onto
  • Use the round cookie cutter to make red circles
  • Place about 6 circles onto the baking sheet lined with Parchment paper
  • Take the craft sticks and slide them under the apples
  • Roll out the green sugar cookie dough
  • Use a small circle to cut little circles out of the green – cut them in half and shape the circle halves into leaves
  • Press the leaves onto the apples
  • Bake according to the sugar cookie recipe directions
  • Slide the cookies off by pulling the parchment paper onto a cooling rack with the cookies still on the paper

for a caramel apple look:

  • Mix a small amount of chocolate frosting into a bowl of vanilla frosting to make a light beige color
  • Once the cookies have cooled, spread the beige frosting onto the bottom of the cookie and sprinkle with nuts

Notes

Note – if using the sugar cookie recipe from the post – this will make about 2 dozen cookies

Using real caramel:

  • using soft caramel, roll it out until it is the width of the cookie
  • shape it into a curved bottom with a couple of curves at the top
  • place on cookie and press to secure
