Chewy, Gooey, Loaded Turtle Cake Brownies

Turtle Brownies Recipe

An old cookbook recipe for delicious Loaded Turtle Brownies. 

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 German chocolate cake mix
  • 12 oz. milk chocolate chips or semi-sweet (your call)
  • 8 oz. soft caramels
  • 2/3 cup + 1/3 cup of evaporated milk
  • 1/2 stick of soft unsalted butter
  • (optional) 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 9x13 pan
  • parchment paper

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix with 2/3 cups of evaporated milk and butter

  • Line a pan with parchment paper and spread 1/2 of the cake mixture across the bottom of the pan

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes

  • Remove from oven and sprinkle chips and (optional) pecans
  • Bake 1 minute

  • Spread the melted chocolate

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the caramels with 1/3 cup of evaporated milk

  • Pour the caramel over the melted chocolate
  • Let the caramel and chocolate set for a few minutes and get stiff

Making Loaded Turtle Brownies

  • Spread the remaining cake mix over the top of the caramel
  • Bake for an additional 20 minutes
