Handprint Turkey Craft with Free Gobble Gobble Printable

Make an adorable handprint turkey craft with this free Gobble Gobble printable! Kids can use colorful painted handprints or footprints to create turkey feathers, then add a photo of their face to complete this sweet Thanksgiving keepsake.

I created two versions of this printable, one with cute little orange turkey feet and another with longer turkey legs. After trying both methods, I found that three overlapping handprints made a colorful fan of feathers, while four footprints worked beautifully for the other turkey.

This is a fun Thanksgiving craft for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and families who love homemade keepsakes.

How to Make a Handprint Turkey

Step 1: Print the turkey template.

Download the free two-page Gobble Gobble printable packet, then print the turkey design you’d like to use on white paper or cardstock.

Step 2: Paint your child’s hand.

Use a foam brush to apply washable paint to the palm and fingers. I used red, orange, and yellow for fall colors.

Step 3: Make the turkey feathers.

Press the painted hand onto the paper above the turkey body, with the fingers pointing outward. Repeat with different colors, overlapping the prints to create a fan of feathers.

Step 4: Let the paint dry.

Allow the handprints to dry completely before adding the photo.

Step 5: Add your child’s face.

Cut out a small photo of your child’s face and glue it just above the turkey belly to make your personalized handprint turkey keepsake.

Make a Footprint Turkey Instead

You can also make a footprint turkey using the same printable!

Instead of painting hands, use a foam brush to apply paint to the bottoms of your child’s feet. Press the footprints above the turkey body and fan them outward to create colorful feathers.

I used four footprints for my example, alternating yellow, red, and orange.

Let the paint dry and glue your child’s photo above the turkey belly to finish.

Hand Turkey Craft Tips for Thanksgiving

These handprint turkeys for Thanksgiving are easy to personalize with your child’s favorite fall colors. Here are a few simple tips for making your keepsake.

  • Use fall colors. Red, orange, and yellow make beautiful turkey feathers.
  • Overlap the prints. This creates a fuller feather display.
  • Try footprints. Painted footprints look especially cute fanned around the turkey body.
  • Add a date. Write your child’s name and the year on the back to remember how little their hands or feet were.
  • Personalize it. A photo of your child’s face turns this hand turkey craft into a keepsake.

Thanksgiving Handprint and Footprint FAQs

Can I make this Thanksgiving turkey craft with a baby?

Absolutely! This is a sweet Thanksgiving keepsake for babies and infants. A parent can help create the turkey feathers using their baby’s tiny handprints or footprints. Use washable, age-appropriate paint, supervise closely, and wash the paint off immediately afterward.

Can I use cardstock for this printable?

Yes! Cardstock is a good option for a keepsake because it is sturdier than regular printer paper.

How many handprints or footprints do I need?

I used three overlapping handprints for one turkey and four footprints for the other. You can adjust the number depending on the size of your child’s hands or feet.
