How to Make the Easter Egg Cross Suncatcher
1. Print the Templates
Print the egg frame and cross template on bright colored paper or cardstock.
The printable includes three different egg colors so kids can choose their favorite.
(Pages 1โ3 in the printable show the egg frames, and pages 4โ6 show the matching cross templates.)
2. Cut Out the Shapes
Cut out:
- The egg frame
- The cross
Leave the center of the egg open so the sunlight can shine through.
3. Add Contact Paper
Place the egg frame onto contact paper or clear packaging tape.
This creates the clear backing that will hold the tissue paper.
4. Place the Cross in the Center
Position the cross in the center of the egg.
This becomes the focal point of the craft and represents the meaning of Easter.
5. Layer the Tissue Paper
Let kids tear or cut tissue paper into small pieces and stick them onto the contact paper around the cross.
Encourage overlapping colors to create a stained glass effect.
6. Seal the Suncatcher
Place another piece of contact paper on top to seal the tissue paper layers.
Trim around the egg frame.
7. Add a Hanging Ribbon
Punch a hole at the top of the egg and tie ribbon or string so the suncatcher can hang in a window.
