Owl Mail: Halloween Activities for Preschoolers

Looking for Halloween activities for preschoolers or a fun kindergarten printable? This Owl Mail activity lets kids deliver tiny Halloween envelopes with a colorful clothespin owl. Kindergarteners can also practice writing their own names and classmates’ names on the To and From lines before delivering the mail!
My youngest daughter came up with the idea when I asked her for Halloween printable ideas similar to the bird activity I already have on the site. She remembered the owls delivering mail to students in the Harry Potter movies and thought “Owl Mail” would be a fun Halloween spin.
That little suggestion inspired these printable owls and Halloween envelopes. I put mine together with wooden clothespins and a purple mailbox, ready for some tiny deliveries!

- Printables are included: Colorful owls and four Halloween envelope designs.
- Simple supplies: Paper, clothespins, scissors, and glue.

Owl Crafts for Preschoolers: Make Your Mail Carrier
Step 1: Print and cut.
Print the owl and envelope pages. Cut around the outside of each owl and envelope template.
Step 2: Attach the owl.
Attach an owl to a wooden clothespin with its beak near the gripping end. Keep the clothespin’s squeezing end accessible, and let the glue dry before playing.
Step 3: Fold the envelopes.
Fold the envelope flaps inward along the dotted lines. Secure the overlapping side and bottom flaps with glue, leaving the top flap available for adding a little note.
Step 4: Set up a mailbox.
Use a pretend mailbox or decorate a box or container for collecting the mail. Mine is purple with Halloween decorations and an Owl Mail label.
(H2) Halloween Dramatic Play: Deliver the Mail
Set out the folded envelopes, clothespin owls, and mailbox.
Have kids squeeze the clothespin to open it, pick up an envelope, and “fly” their owl over to the mailbox. Squeeze again to release the delivery!
Leave the envelopes empty or tuck small paper notes inside. Kids can take turns being the mail carrier and checking for deliveries.

Halloween Activities for Kindergarten
These little envelopes give name-writing practice a playful purpose! Have children write their own name on the From line and a classmate’s name on the To line. Then let their owl deliver the envelope to its recipient.
You could also add Owl Mail to a post office dramatic play area with paper, pencils, and a place to sort incoming mail.
Melissa’s Tips for Halloween Fine Motor Activities
- Check the grip first. Before gluing, hold the owl against the clothespin and check that you can comfortably squeeze it.
- Choose your direction. The separate right-facing owl sheet gives you another option when assembling your mail carrier.
- Keep the mail within reach. Start with the envelopes close to the mailbox so kids can practice picking them up and letting them go.
