When fall finally rolls around, I am so ready for apples, pumpkins, and pumpkin spice everything. I love to fill the house with crafts like this one, this toilet paper roll pumpkin, this sunflower handprint craft, and this apple stamping pumpkin craft.

I love adding this apple suncatcher to our collection of bright and cozy fall crafts. It’s such an easy project, and it brings a warm, welcoming touch to the window.

How to Make Apple Suncatchers

Prep the Craft for the kids

Cut a large apple shape from construction paper

Cut the center out, so only a wide outline remains

Cut two pieces of contact paper that are roughly the same size and shape of the apple outline

Peel the backing off of “one” of the pieces the contact paper and place the apple outline onto the sticky side of the contact paper

Add Tissue Paper

Kids can cut or tear tissue paper pieces to sparsely fill in the center of their apple shape – leave wide spaces between tissue paper so the sun can shine through

Seal and Finish

Peel back the paper from the other contact paper apple shape and place it sticky side down onto the decorated apple

Cut a stem and leaf from the brown and green paper

Tape those onto the apple

Display

Tape your suncatcher to a window and let it shine

Expert Tips

Be sure to prep this for the little ones. The contact paper is really sticky and can easily fold over onto itself. It is best if you place the apple online onto the contact paper so that the little kids can avoid frustration

Kids can use their fine motor skills either by cutting tissue paper or use their hands tearing the tissue paper for their apple craft

Variations

Pumpkin suncatcher – make a pumpkin shape with orange paper and let kids fill it in with orange tissue paper

Holidays – Change this craft to fit any holiday. Make a tree or ornament shape for Christmas or a Pumpkin for Thanksgiving

Contact Paper – Use Press-N-Seal cling wrap in place of contact paper

FAQs about cheesecloth

Yes! There is a sticky cling wrap called Press-N-Seal that would work as a great substitute.

I used a small piece of clear tape folded back onto itself and taped it to the window.

Seal the suncatcher with contact paper or Press-N-Seal and you can safely tuck it away after the season to use it each year. The color may fade with time.
