Rock Candy Mocktail

When I entertain for the holidays, I like to have lots of fun drinks for the kids to pick from like Grinch Punch, Root Beer Floats, and Rudolph Punch.

We always love to ring in the New Year with the kids, so kid-friendly drinks are a must. These Rock Candy Drinks are quick to make and a shoo-in with the party guests.

To make this recipe, you’ll only need two ingredients.

  • 7-Up or some other lemon-lime soda
  • Rock Candy – I couldn’t find the exact rock candy that I wanted in the stores, so I found this pack of 12 Rock Candy Sticks

Tips for the Perfect Drink

I do not recommend making this drink ahead of time. The soda starts to dissolve the rock candy pretty quickly, which is fun if you have it in your hand but not so much fun if your guests haven’t arrived yet.

Any brand of lemon-lime soda will work. Our family once had a blind taste contest between 7-Up and Sprite. We thought we liked Sprite better, but it turned out that 7-Up was our favorite. Of course, generic lemon-lime or ginger ale are other alternatives.

Quick Tip

Prep drinks by unwrapping candy sticks and placing them in cups

FAQs

Can I Make Rock Candy Mocktails in Advance?

No. This drink is not one you can make in advance, but don’t worry—it is super simple to make. To prep your glasses, unwrap rock candy sticks and place them in them. When it is party time, pour soda into cups and enjoy.

What Does a Rock Candy Mocktail Taste Like?

It tastes like a sugary lemon-lime soda

Variations

Pop Rocks: Pour some honey into a small dish. Flip your glass over so the rim is coated in honey. Place Pop Rocks in a different dish, and dip the honey-coated glass into the Pop Rocks.

Sanding Sugar: Cut limes into wedges. Cut a slit into the limes and place the slit over the glass rims. Move it around the cup so that the rim is coated in lime. Pour sanding sugar into a small dish. Place the lime-coated rim into the sugar and coat the glass rim.
