FAQs

Make Ahead and Storage:

How far in advance can I make these Spider Web Cookies?

You can make these cookies up to a few days in advance. Store at room temperature. If stored in the fridge, condensation may cause the color to run or bleed

Storage: Store these cookies unwrapped at room temperature. You can cover them, but if it is too hot, humidity might cause moisture to build up in your container and cause the colors to bleed

Freezing: Once the gel coloring has been set and will not run, freeze cookies with wax paper in a freezer bag.

Do I Have to Use Gel Icing to Make the Web?

No. I found that using the gel frosting already in a frosting tub was the easiest. You can also use a dark or Halloween-colored frosting as your web.

Do I have to use the Powdered Sugar Icing?

No. Although the powdered sugar glaze is easy and delicious…You can use any frosting recipe you have or use the white frosting right out of a can of store-bought frosting

What Colors Can I Make the Web?

I’d stick to Halloween colors. Purple, Monster Green, Black, Orange, or Yellow would all make great spider webs

Tips and Tricks:

  • when making your frosting, you can thicken it or thin it out as much as you’d like. To thicken your frosting, add more powdered sugar. To thin your frosting or glaze add more liquid.
  • you can use water or milk to make the glaze

Are you ready to make these cute and spooky cookies for Halloween? Let’s make sure you have everything you’ll need:

Ingredients:

  • sugar cookies baked and cooled
  • powdered sugar – this will be used to make a white icing
  • water – water should be added a little bit at a time until you get the desired consistency of the icing
  • almond extract – this can be interchanged with clear vanilla extract although I prefer almond for flavoring. If you use brown vanilla extract, your white will take on a creamy white color
  • black gel icing in a frosting tub
