I love getting creative with jello! It’s so much fun and it’s always a big hit. My kids just love it. This Jello Creation is perfect for summer treats, and Patriotic Parties. Come to think of it, it’s a good one for Captain America birthday parties, too. As always, I kept it super simple. Come on in and I’ll share the “how to” on this Firecracker Jello Dessert Snack Recipe for a Fun Patriotic Treat:
Patriotic Jell-O Ingredients
- Mayonnaise
- red Jell-O
- blue Jell-O
- Water
- whipped topping
- licorice sticks
Here’s how you make this patriotic Jell-O Treat
Step One
Prepare the pans by rubbing a thin layer of mayonnaise with a piece of paper towel – It’s a trick my mom taught me. Nobody will taste the mayonnaise and you won’t get oil on the jello by using cooking spray
Step Two
Prepare the red jello by stirring 2 cups of hot water with the red granules, until they are dissolved
Add the cold water and mix in
Step Three
Pour into one of the 9×13 pans
Next, prepare the blue jello using the 2 packages of blue jello, 2 cups of hot water, and 2 cups of cold water
Pour into a prepared pan
Allow the 2 different jello pans to set up for about 3 hours
To Prepare the Cups
- cut the end of the licorice stick into strips of 3 – going about 2 inches down – I tried cutting it into 5 strips…way too frustrating! Keep it simple with 3
- trim the licorice strips to fit the cups so the cut portion will stick out over the whipped cream topping. The length will vary depending on how tall your cups are
Cutting Jell-O into Cubes
Step One
When it’s ready, Pull the jello out of the fridge and cut it into strips about an inch wide
turn the pan and cut strips going the other way about an inch wide
Spoon some red Jello cubes into the bottom of the plastic cups- going about halfway up
Repeat with the Blue Jell-O
When you or your guests are ready, add whipped topping, and a licorice stick to the top and enjoy the yumminess! 🙂
Expert Tip
**Do this a day in advance or the morning of your party. The jello takes several hours to set up – allow for about 3- 4 hours of refrigeration 🙂

Notes
Serving Size
You should be able to get 10-12 cups of Jell-O Melted Whipped Topping- The picture shows the whipped cream melting a bit and running down through the cracks of the cubes. In summer, the heat will start to melt the whipped cream to make this effect. It’s delicious that way and so beautiful.
