It’s summer, so that means it’s time for bugs. Today, I want to share this amazing DIY Natural Bug Spray that works for repelling mosquitoes, gnats, black flies and even ticks! Summer is so wonderful in that it brings warm weather, beautiful green grass, flowers, and fun times. The not so wonderful, summer struggles…bugs! Come on in and I’ll share my recipe for DIY Natural Bug Spray using Essential Oils…
Essential Oils are a marvelous thing. There are so many different oils that cover such a broad spectrum, even mosquito repellent. Have you ever wondered what essential oils are the most effective in repelling mosquitoes?
The answer is that there are several types of scents that mosquitoes don’t care for. You can have so much fun mixing your own custom concoction. The top of the list is Lemon Eucalyptus essential oil.
- Lavender and Rosemary are also good ones to use
- Basil, Clove, Mint, Citronella and many more will help repel mosquitoes, ticks, gnats and more
Why use vanilla extract and oil?
- It is said that – They preserve the length of the effectiveness of the essential oils. If you want to read more about the use of vanilla and oil, here’s a great link with more info.
What about rubbing alcohol?
- Alcohol kills bugs. Rubbing alcohol infused with lemon repels and kills. Here’s a great link with more information on this topic
So, now that I’ve explained the reasoning behind some of these ingredients, let’s get started.
Here’s What You’ll Need to Make this DIY Natural Bug Spray…
- 1 Tbsp. of Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
- 10 drops each of rosemary essential oil and lavender
- 1 Tbsp. of Pure Vanilla Extract
- 4 oz. of rubbing alcohol
- 4 oz. of coconut oil – melted
- Optional – 10 drops of other oils mentioned above
Instructions for this DIY Natural Bug Spray
- Mix everything together and pour into a spray bottle
To use
- Shake well, spray some on and rub all over exposed skin
Another reason to make your own DIY Essential Oil Natural Bug Spray...it smells so good!
