I’m telling you, those were the best chewy chocolate chip cookies that I’ve ever had. Imagine my surprise when I found her recipe forty years later in a school cookbook. Hurray for us! How do you make Chewy, Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies?

  1. Mix sugars, butter, extract, and eggs
  2. In another bowl, mix the baking soda, salt, cream of tartar, and flour
  3. Add the dry mixture to the wet
  4. Fold in chocolate chips
  5. Scoop spoonfuls of dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper
  6. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes

Equipment

  • baking sheet lined with parchment paper

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter softened unsalted
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ¼ tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2&1/3 cups flour
  • 1 12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • cream the first five ingredients together (brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, vanilla and eggs)
  • in a separate bowl, sift the last 4 ingredients together
  • mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients
  • add 1 large bag of chocolate chips – milk chocolate or semi-sweet
  • Bake for 12 minutes
