What I Love About This Fall Recipe
- An easy treat for fall
- A great treat to make for festivals and to sell at pumpkin patches
- These make great gifts. You can place them in clear gift bags and decorate them with fall ribbon
Ingredients for this Easy Fall Treat
- Marshmallows – I bought regular size – not miniature or giant. If you want, you can get giant marshmallows for some extra decorating surface but it’s not really necessary
- Brown chocolate melts – I used to buy my melting chocolate at Michael’s Craft store, but now you can order it off of Amazon, or find it at Walmart, as well. Melting chocolates are typically found in the cake-decorating aisle of stores
- Oreo Cookies – crushed – You’ll probably use only a portion of the package. You can use the rest to dip into some milk at another time. Yum!
- Pumpkin soft candies – These are usually easily found in the fall. It’s usually about mid-August that they start popping up in stores
- Green Frosting – This will be used to make the vines for the pumpkins. Usually in pumpkin patches, vines curl around the field and up to pumpkins. You can use a piping bag and a writing tip to draw vines onto the marshmallow bites
How to Make Pumpkin Patch Marshmallow Bites
Step One
Grab your microwave-proof glass bowl and pour the chocolate melts in. Microwave until smooth (about 1 to 1&1/2 minutes)
Set out a sheet of wax paper
Step Two
Blend the cookies until they are crushed and resemble dir. Pour the crushed cookies into a bowl
Step Three
Dip the marshmallows into the melted chocolate until they are halfway covered
Step Four
Dip the chocolate-covered portion into the crushed cookie bowl so the cookie coats the melted chocolate
Step Five
Dip the pumpkin into the chocolate and place it onto the crushed cookie
Set the marshmallow onto wax paper to dry
Step Six
Put green frosting into a piping bag that has been fitted with a writing tip and squeeze a squiggly line from pumpkin to fake Oreo dirt to resemble vines
Expert Tip for These Fall Treats
Make sure to decorate your marshmallow bites while the chocolate is still melted. Once the chocolate dries it becomes hard and you’ll need to use the melted chocolate to help attach decorations
If chocolate is too hard to add more toppings, dip the toppings into melted chocolate and it will act as glue. Add the decorations with the melted chocolate on the bottom. The chocolate should dry and harden to hold your toppings in place
To place frosting into the piping bag, first fold the piping bag over in half to make it a shorter area to fill. Use a spoon to scoop frosting into the piping bag
Once you have the frosting in place, twist the middle of the bag so none escapes out of the top
Melting Chocolate
I usually melt the chocolates in the microwave for 1 minute and then remove the bowl
I use a silicone spatula to stir the warmed chocolate
If there are still lumps of hardened chocolate, place the bowl back into the microwave for about 30 more seconds
Stir until smooth
Marshmallow Bites Variations
S’mores – milk chocolate melts, crushed graham crackers
Strawberry Shortcake – Pink chocolate melts, crushed graham crackers, fresh strawberry
Banana Pudding – Yellow chocolate melts, crushed vanilla wafer, chocolate-covered banana slices
What to Serve with Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Bites
- nuts
- cookies
- brownies
Dip a marshmallow halfway into melted chocolate. Set the marshmallow down on wax paper with the non-coated section on the bottom. Decorate with other ingredients while the chocolate is still melted. Let the marshmallow dry for chocolate to harden
Marshmallows, Melted Chocolate, and Decorative ingredients to top the marshmallow bite
You can change the flavor of a marshmallow bite by changing out the flavors of marshmallows. You can also add different toppings to change the flavor of marshmallow bites like adding crushed graham crackers for a S’mores flavor, crushed gingersnaps for a fall flavor, or crushed Oreos for a cookie flavor.
Storing and Reheating
Store marshmallow bites at room temperature covered in a container for up to four days
You do not need to reheat this treat
