With family in for the holidays, I thought it would be a fun treat to have some spiced wine with my Mother-In-Law while we watched movies, and put puzzles together with the kids. And, boy was it a treat! Luckily we had others to share this with, or I think we might have had the whole bottle! Nana actually high-fived me in the kitchen for the awesome new recipe. It’s the little things that make us happy! 😉 Here’s the recipe that I just ever so slightly adapted from Taste of Home’s Christmas Cookbook for you and your guests!:
You’ll Need:
- 2 bottles of Red Wine – I found one at Target called Apothic Red – it’s a blend of reds
- 3 medium tart apples peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. lemon juice
- Spice Bag – You can use several layers of cheesecloth, or I like to use a coffee filter bag
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. whole cloves
- 1 tsp. ground allspice
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
Now, on to this recipe:
- Grab your slow cooker and pour the sugar, wine, and lemon juice
- Using your spice bag , place the cinnamon sticks, cloves, cinnamon and allspice inside and tie it together
- Place that in the slow cooker with the wine
- add your apples
- Place on high for 4 hours
- Remove the spice bag, and scoop into mugs, or let it cool a little and pour into wine glasses – enjoy!
