Lollipop Spiders: Easy Halloween Suckers for Kids

I’ve been wanting to make these Tootsie Pop Spiders for years! Whenever I share a photo of this idea in my Facebook groups, everyone loves them and passes the idea along. I finally decided this was the year I was going to make my own.

My favorite part is how they each end up with a different personality. Just changing where you place the eyes or how you bend the legs gives them a whole new look. The cut pipe cleaners wrap around the stick to create the spider’s legs with very little fuss.

I used round Tootsie Pops, but you can use any round lollipop. Flat, circle-shaped suckers would work too—I just like the round ones best for the spider’s body. And since the wrappers stay on, these are a craft and a treat to enjoy afterward!

Why You’ll Love These Spider Lollipops

  • Craft and treat. The lollipop slides out of the legs when you’re ready to eat it.
  • Simple supplies. Made with wrapped lollipops, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes.
  • Quick assembly. Just cut, wrap, bend, and glue.
  • Fun to share. A cute idea for classmates, Halloween parties, or trick-or-treaters.

Supplies for This Pipe Cleaner Spider Craft

  • Tootsie Roll Pops: I used several flavors and left the wrappers on.
  • Black pipe cleaners: These wrap around the stick to form the spider’s legs.
  • Scissors: For cutting the pipe cleaners.
  • Googly eyes: To give each spider a face.
  • Glue: I used Beacon 3-in-1 because I like how quickly it grabs and dries.

How to Make Spider Lollipops

Step 1: Cut the pipe cleaners. Cut the black pipe cleaners into shorter pieces for the legs.

Step 2: Wrap around the stick. Keep the lollipop wrapped. Wrap each pipe cleaner piece around the stick just below the candy, leaving legs extending on both sides.

Step 3: Bend the legs. Spread the legs apart and bend them downward on both sides to give your spider its shape.

Step 4: Add the eyes. Glue the googly eyes onto the pipe cleaner body just below the wrapped candy. Let the glue dry.

Melissa’s Tips for Making Lollipop Spiders

  • Leave the wrapper on. Decorate the wrapped lollipop so it stays a treat you can unwrap later.
  • Wrap below the candy. Attach the pipe cleaners around the stick just under the lollipop.
  • Choose your flavors. I used several Tootsie Pop flavors for my spiders.
  • Slide out the treat. When it’s time to eat, pull the lollipop out of the pipe cleaner legs, then unwrap it.
  • Give them personality. Change the eye placement and bend the legs in different ways—mine each ended up with their own little personality!
