I love craft recipes. It’s so much fun to play in the kitchen with the kids. This craft doesn’t require any cooking, so you can make it just about anywhere. With a couple of simple ingredients, you’ve got yourself a Fun Sugar Ornament to hang on the Christmas tree or from the window sill for a Happy Winter Decoration. Use any cookie cutter to create any shape! This is so much fun and easy to do. I decorated this snowman with sugar sprinkles and glued a string for hanging him on the windowsill for some cheerful decorations.

Here’s What You’ll Need to Make Sugar Ornaments With the Kids for a Fun Winter or Christmas Craft
(this will make about 4 average sized ornaments – you can double the recipe for more)
Supplies Needed
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- *optional glitter (1 tsp.)- for a colorful sugar ornament, you can add colorful glitter. I wanted glittery snow, so we added white glitter to ours. The sugar is shiny enough without the glitter for snow, so the white glitter is not necessary, although fun!
- 1 tsp. of water
- *Optional – Decorations for a snowman or snowflake, like sprinkles and non perils
- String or ribbon for hanging
Additional equipment:
- Large bowl
- Spoon to stir
- Wax Paper
- Baking sheet for drying
Instructions:
- Pour the sugar and glitter in the bowl – mix
- Add water and mix well until all of the sugar is wet and starts to pack together (like snow)
- Grab your baking sheet or drying plate covered with wax paper
- Place your cookie cutter on the wax paper and start packing it with sugar
- Pack it tight
- *If you want to decorate…Now is the time to do it – while it is packed and still inside the cookie cutter. Press the decorations into the sugar so they will stay
- Ella pushed colorful sprinkles into her snowflake while it was still in the cookie cutter
- Gently Lift the cookie cutter away from your creation and Don’t touch! Not yet
- Let the ornament dry for 24 hours in a dry place – do not cover
- To hang the ornament, use a warm glue gun to glue a piece of ribbon or string to the back in a loop
- Hang and enjoy!

Hi. Honest, not grumpy, ok? I like feedback. So. I can’t even see whole photos & it’s difficult to read bc there is no X to remove the email newsletter ad & the “Yes! Sign me up!” keeps wiggling in a distracting way. I don’t need a newsletter, I found this on Pinterest, & I would happily follow your site by logging on directly. I tend to see & be interested in ads in margins or between text. I remove those that block content, without reading them or seeing what they’re for. Also I don’t sign up for outside content & I feel like pages swoop on me for it before I could even read my 1st article there. It feels pushy that I can’t even see past this one. So rather than just wander off, & search another source, I thought I’d tell you why first, bc I’ll bet you’re on a laptop or tablet when you upload & design the site & may not realize. Email is a bit out of date. Few still use it bc of spam, now that we can text internationally, so this really should have an X. It’s hard to type this! Yes! I absolutely love feedback – especially constructive feedback like this. Thank you. I had no idea that this was an issue. I’m not a fan of a bunch of junk piling up in my email either. However, it is a blogging necessity. Yes, an X is crucial. The company that collects emails on the site charges $30 a month for that little X in the corner and they have locked me out of altering the sign up bar. So…because of your helpful feedback, I have deleted my account with the subscription service that collects emails for my site. I promise I will go in search for a more user friendly alternative. You gave me the push I needed to do that. I do want to make my site as user friendly as I can. I visit sites too, and absolutely hate it when you can’t just get to the article. I don’t want to be that site. Thank you again.
