Years ago, I made a stacked snowman chocolate-covered apple to share. I have been recently going through old posts and updating them with new pictures. Sometimes, I’ll change the original idea to make it easier, like this one. This apple snowman snack is much simpler this time, with only one apple and a cute little bow added for extra cuteness.
What You’ll Love About this Snowman Treat
- This healthy snowman snack is easy-to-make
- It is the perfect addition to any Christmas party, used as a fun snack for the kids, or given out as a Christmas food gift.
Ingredients
- Apples – I found miniature round apples called Rocket apples. They are sweet apples that are perfect for making this snowman treat
- White Chocolate Almond Bark or white chocolate melting wafers – either one will do for this sweet treat. They both melt into a smooth and creamy texture which is perfect for dipping.
- Orange-colored cake frosting in a piping bag with a writing tip – This will be used to draw the carrot noses onto your snowmen.
- Black cookie icing or frosting in a bag with a writing tip – I found some already in a bag with a writing tip in the baking aisle of my grocery store
- Red ribbon – Used as a decoration for the cute little snowman or snowgirl
Equipment Needed
Glass microwavable proof bowl for melting chocolate
Large pot for the stovetop
Wax Paper
Popsicle sticks or small Wooden skewers
How to Make Chocolate-Covered Snowman Apples
Before you begin dipping the apples, you’ll need to remove any wax from the apple skin
To do this, boil a pot of water. The water does not have to be a rolling boil, but it will need to be hot enough to melt wax.
Place the apples into the hot water and spin them around. Quickly remove them and dry them with a paper towel to remove any waxy residue.
Place the chocolate into a small bowl deep enough to cover the apple.
Melt the chocolate until it is smooth and creamy. Stir it to make sure all of the chocolate is melted and smooth. There are notes below on how I melt chocolate.
Set out a piece of wax paper onto your work surface
Remove the apple stem
Push the popsicle stick or wooden skewer into the apples
Dip the apples into the chocolate and roll it around to almost fully cover the apple. It’s ok if the top of the apple is not covered in chocolate
Lift the apple to allow excess chocolate to drip off of the apple
Place the apple onto a sheet of wax paper to dry
Once the chocolate is dry you can decorate the face
Lay the apples down so it is facing up. Do this so gravity does not make the icing drip down the face
Use the chocolate icing to make the eyes and mouth of your snowman
I made two different mouths to make a variety of facial expressions
One smile is a smooth curved line
The other smile is dots curved into a smile
Add a carrot nose with the orange frosting
Finally, tie a bow onto the popsicle stick and slide it down just above the apple
Expert Tips
I use a toothpick to fix most chocolate or frosting mistakes. It is a nice tool for lifting frosting mistakes or smoothing chocolate after it has been dipped.
It is important to remove the wax from your apples before dipping them into chocolate. A wax-covered apple will ruin your cute creation. The chocolate will start dripping down the wax-covered apple. Spend the extra few minutes to remove the wax from your apples. I took a picture to show you the difference. As you can see the chocolate does not cling as well and starts to slide off of the apple.
