Painting a Plastic Playhouse
Are you looking for fun summer ideas with the kids? Try some of my other activities, like:
Materials You’ll Need to Make a Farmhouse Playhouse
- Krylon Fusion – Spray Paint for plastics – black for the roof
- Rustoleum – Red Oil Based Paint for the main house
- Rustoleum – White Oil Based Paint for the trim
- Puffy Fabric Paint – A variety of colors. In Squeeze Bottles for my rooster on the window. I outlined him in black and filled him in with colorful accents.
- Optional: Farm Decals. This would replace the puffy paint. There are so many cute farm decals on Amazon.
More Equipment
A painter’s canvas drop cloths to protect your grass and make it easier to paint the house. You could also use a disposable tablecloth from the Dollar Tree.
A variety of paint brushes. I would get some angled brushes for trim. Rollers aren’t the best option for this project.
How to Make a Farmhouse Recycled Playhouse
![old playhouse](https://kidfriendlythingstodo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/house.jpg-playhouse.jpg)
First, clean the old house of dirt and debris using soap and water. A degreaser will also help with stubborn areas.
Take the roof off the house and set it on a dropcloth or something similar.
Paint the roof with black spray paint.
It is your personal preference whether you paint the walls or the trim first. I left the outline of the window and door to be painted white. I also left some cross sections of the door for white paint.
Other than that, I painted everything red. Each house will have a different type of trim, so use your best judgment on what should be painted white.
Rooster: I did this freehand, so I do not have a template for you.
Once the paint is dry, you can use puffy paint to paint the rooster outside the window with yellow hay underneath it.

Tips and Tricks
Turpentine will remove oil-based paint from the skin. I’ve also heard that an alcohol hand cleanser like Germ-X will work.
