Bat Craft: Easy Hanging Sock Bat for Kids
This post may contain affiliate links – please read my disclosure statement.
I originally made this little hanging bat using a child-sized black sock I found at Dollar Tree, and it turned into one of the cutest Halloween decorations. Once it was stuffed and the felt wings, ears, googly eyes, and tiny white teeth were added, I hung it upside down from our haunted tree—and it looked right at home!
This bat craft is inexpensive, easy to personalize, and a fun way to use one of those lonely black socks that always seems to be missing its match. I’ve also added a bat wing template to make cutting the matching felt wings easier. If you’re looking for easy bat crafts for kids, this hanging sock bat is such a fun one to make for Halloween.

If you have some solo black socks hanging around the house, recycle them into Hanging Bats! You can even pose your bat in a tree for a fun and cute Halloween Decoration. These bats would even be cute hanging on your front porch this Halloween.
Supplies Needed for This Easy Bat Craft
- Black Crew Sock – I used a kid’s size and found it at the Dollar Tree
- Fiber Fill
- Black Felt Sheet
- White Foam Sheet
- Google Eyes or use a fabric marker to draw eyes.
- Fabric Glue – like Fabri-Tac (recommended for its instant seal)
- (optional) Bat Wing Template
- Scissors
How to Make a Sock Bat Craft

- Fill the black sock with fiberfill until it is mostly full but still slightly flexible.
- Glue the open end of the sock closed. Using the bat wing template, cut two wings from black felt.
- Cut two small triangles from the black felt for the bat’s ears. Cut two small triangles from white craft foam for the teeth.
- Cut a small slit on each side of the sock near the bat’s head, where you want to position the wings.
- Insert the narrow end of each felt wing into a slit and secure it with fabric glue.
- Allow the glue to dry until the wings are firmly attached.
- Glue on the ears, googly eyes, and white foam teeth.
- Once the glue is completely dry, hang your sock bat upside down for Halloween.
