Coffee Cake Ring
I made this the night before Christmas morning, so it would be an easy breakfast for everyone on a very busy day. We left it out for everyone to enjoy all day, and it received several compliments. This cinnamon nut coffee cake ring was such a delicious treat to have and going forward, I’ll be adding it to my traditional holiday recipes.

How Do You Make a Coffee Ring?
- In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- In a saucepan, heat milk, butter and water until luke-warm
- Add to dry ingredients, and beat just until moistened.
- Add egg and remaining flour; and beat until smooth.
- Shape into a ball. Do not knead. Cover and let rest for 10 minutes.
- Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll into a large rectangle – about 12x18in. –
- Spread filling to within 1/2 in. of edges
- Roll up, jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; pinch seam to seal
- place, seam side down, on a greased 12-in. pizza pan; pinch ends together to form a ring.
- With scissors, cut from the outside edge two-thirds of the way toward the center of the ring at 1-1/2-inch intervals
- Separate pieces; slightly spread apart to show filling
- Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes
- After the dough has doubled in size, it’s either ready to bake or if this is a night-before deal, it’s ready to get covered and placed in the refrigerator
- Take it out early the next morning and let it warm up. (about 1/2 hour) or until the dough looks a little puffy
- Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let Cool
- For the glaze, combine sugar, butter, vanilla, and enough milk to achieve desired consistency. drizzle over coffee cake
Cinnamon Nut Coffee Cake Ring
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour divided
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 1/4 oz. quick rise yeast
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup milk 2% or whole
- ½ cup butter unsalted – softened
- ¼ cup water
- 1 large egg
Filling
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons butter softened – unsalted
Glaze
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter softened
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk 2% or whole
