This Jellyfish Craft made from a cupcake wrapper is the perfect summer or ocean-themed craft for kids to make. With just a few supplies and some imagination, you’ll have a cute little jellyfish to hang from the window or in a classroom display.

We love summertime crafts like this one. They are all so colorful and cheerful like this paper bag shark craft, this flip-flop craft for kids to make, and this mermaid doll craft.
This jellyfish craft is a great summer activity after a day at the beach or after a day of learning about ocean animals.
Why you’ll love this craft
Supplies You’ll Need

- cupcake wrapper – I used a fun and colorful rainbow-themed cupcake wrapper to make this jellyfish super vibrant.
- bubble wrap
- paint – I used a variety of colors from Crayola washable paint.
- paintbrush
- paper clip
- string or yarn
- scissors
How to make this Jellyfish Craft
Cut one or two long strips of bubble wrap—long enough to hang down as tentacles and wide enough to attach inside the bottom edge of the cupcake wrapper.
Paint the bubble wrap using a variety of fun, ocean-inspired colors.
Set it aside to dry completely.

Once dry, cut the bubble wrap into long strips to create tentacles—leave the top edge uncut so it stays in one piece for easy gluing to the cupcake wrapper.
Push one tip of a paper clip through the center of the cupcake wrapper
So the paper doesn’t tear, add a dab of glue to the paper clip on the top and bottom of the cupcake wrapper
Tie some string or yarn to the paper clip for hanging up

Glue the uncut portion of the bubble wrap

Glue the bubble wrap to the inside/center portion of the cupcake wrapper

Let it completely dry before holding up

Expert tips
Glue Alternative: If you don’t have glue that will hold the jellyfish together, use clear tape in its place
Variations
Colors: use different colors of cupcake wrappers to represent different species of jellyfish
Glitter: sprinkle glitter onto the wet paint for a shimmery effect
Tentacles: Use yarn or string to add different textured tentacles
FAQs
Can I use mini cupcake wrappers?
Yes! You can make mini jellyfish with mini wrappers or a family of jellyfish with mini wrappers and regular-sized wrappers
What kind of glue works best?
I like to use a tacky glue called Beacon 3-in-1. It is a glue that will grab the material quickly so it holds together almost instantly and dries to make a strong hold.
Is this a craft for preschool-age kids?
Sure! I would prep the cupcake wrapper by adding the string to the top. Let the kids paint, cut, and glue the rest. It’s a great way to build fine motor skills.
