Painting Cookies with Egg Whites
We love fun food crafts around here. Crafting in the kitchen has been a staple on this blog. In the years past, we have made fun food treats like Ice Cream Cone Fruit Cups, Gingerbread Boy Cupcakes, and Thanksgiving Ice Cream Turkey Treats. Kitchen fun never ends on the blog. It’s a great way to spend time with the kids or make a special treat for them.
Ingredients You’ll Need

- Food Coloring
Equipment You’ll Need

How to Paint Sugar Cookies Using Egg Whites
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place cookies onto the baking sheet.
Bake sugar cookies for about seven to eight minutes or until they are somewhat done. The dough will spread and the tops will form a cookie crust that can be painted.
While those are baking, prepare your paints.
Add a drop or two of food coloring into all but one Dixie cup – Leave one egg white clear without color.
Pull the partially baked cookies out of the oven.
Let the baking sheet cool to the touch. The cookies will also need to cool off a bit so they do not crumble apart. This will only take a minute or two.
You can leave your cookies on the baking sheet or transfer them to a paper plate for painting.
Using your clear egg white, brush each cookie with a coating of egg white. This will seal the colored egg whites so they won’t disappear into the cookie.
Now, you can let the kids use paintbrushes and all of the different colored egg whites to paint their creations.
Bake their painted cookies for the remaining baking time (3-5 more minutes) to cook the egg white and finish baking the cookie.
Let the cookies cool completely. The egg whites will continue to cook as they cool off and form a glaze over the cookie.
Expert Tips
You can make many fun designs with a circle sugar cookie, but you could also color-shaped cookies for the holidays. We once colored Halloween-shaped cookies for a fun Halloween activity. Christmas-shaped sugar cookies would be so much fun to paint.
